Amanda Johnson Photography What To Wear!
*You are what you wear*
So now you’ve booked your session with Amanda Johnson Photography and the first thing that comes to mind is “what am I going to wear”! No need to stress out! I have put together a few tips that you can use when looking for your outfit.
Before we talk about “what to wear”, I want to make sure everyone knows what your clothing does not need to be:
1: Matching: You don’t have to match everyone in the same color! Use colors that compliment each other. I promise it’s OK if everyone doesn’t exactly match! If you have trouble deciding on what outfit to choose for everyone, start by building everyones outfit around one persons outfit, then go from there. Remember I am here if you need help!
2: Super Expensive: Unless that’s how you roll! If you want to be all fancy-schmancy then by all means bring it! If your not a dress up type of person than don’t feel like you need to be one for your session. Be yourself!
3: Brand Spankin New: I have some old jeans that are my fave! So if you want to rock your shoot in your old retro band T with ripped jeans and worn converse shoes I will love it as long as your rockin your style.
Now that we have that out of the way, lets move onto “what to wear”
I believe clients not only need to be confident in their clothes, but comfortable! Don’t wear clothes that you can’t move around in. You know the kind that your to afraid to sit down in because you might bust the bottom out! Yah, that want work and more than likely you’ll look stiff in your pictures. Babies/Kids defiantly need to be comfortable! Trust me if you put a baby/kid in an constrained, itchy, stiff outfit you’ll be able to see in the pictures that they are uncomfortable! I love babies and small children in bright colors, fun patterns (like polka dots and stripes), cute diaper covers, baby leg warmers, petti/tutu skirts and of course babies in the nude always works! Teenagers should always bring a few different outfits to choose from. I recommend deciding on a location first (like down town, a big field, by the lake, etc) then choose their favorite outfits that would go with the location. Accessories always adds to a picture! I love accessories more than anything! You can take an ordinary outfit and dress it up with some cute jewelry and you’ll be the hottest thing in town! Scarves, hats, purses, cool shoes, sunglasses, hair bows….I could go on and on! Picking an outfit to wear for your session shouldn’t be stressful. Remember I’m here to help you decide on locations, clothing and everything else. I have been known to come over and go through a clients closet with them to pick something out, clients have emailed me images of outfits to look at before buying and some show up with a trunk load of clothes. No matter what I will make sure you’ll look good in your images!
I have a few links below that are some of my favorite places for clothes. Now, this doesn’t mean you have to go buy something new before you session!!! This is just some places that I love and I thought I would share them with you. You’ll see a lot of etsy.com stores, that’s because they are a one stop shop where dealers sale their hand made creations. I could literally stay on this store from day to dark! Not a joke!
